We will tap into our higher potentials and link asana (poses) and pranayama (breathing) with a self-reflective meditation to attain a powerful state of conscious relaxation.

Nia is a multi-faceted fusion fitness, enjoyed by students worldwide. Formerly termed Non Impact Aerobics, Nia's acronym now stands for Neuromuscular Integrative Action. The word Nia in Swahili is said to mean "with intention." In Hebrew, Nia is defined as "subtle movement." Although students may find it challenging to remember Nia's catch phrases, the practice is fun and easy to ingrain in the sensory body.
Students are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing, kick off their shoes, move barefoot, and embrace a new way of getting fit. Each class will include a repertoire of moves from the dance arts, the martial arts, and the healing arts. Form and freedom are combined to help students discover how to appreciate moving their bodies in organic, unique ways. Though the teacher offers a blueprint for each class by engaging the students in a choreographed routine set to inspiring music, the student is encouraged to get connected to his/her own body. As the Nia class unfolds, one grows more confident in expressing oneself through a medley of moves, both fluid and strong. In addition, Nia classmates offer a wonderful opportunity to explore dancing, moving, and playing in community together!
The Nia teacher will "teach what you sense" so that students will be able to express what they sense. Sensation can be perceived through the bones, muscles, joints, skin, and energy bodies.
When we speak of sensation, we are speaking about what we feel in our bodies. These sensory voices from our bodies are guideposts calling us to recognize when we are in or out of alignment, moving too fast, pushing ourselves too hard, or perhaps not challenging ourselves enough. By learning to express what you sense, the end result becomes a deeper and more meaningful relationship between you and yourself, between you and the music, between you and your pleasure, between you and your classmates, and between good choices that lead to holistic personal healing.
Nia creates a growing kinesthetic awareness, promoting a feeling of aliveness and pleasure in the body. Nia compells students to want more! Perhaps that is why Debbie Rosas, the co- founder of The Nia Technique has said, "Nia is a lot like chocolate. You've gotta taste it!" Nia is a form of exercise perfect for all levels. Nia is a mind, body, spirit practice with purpose. Nia is meditation in action. Nia is medicine for the soul. Nia nurtures internal awareness. Nia is all these things and more. Nia is the joy of movement~ The dance of life!

Wednesdays 4:45-5:45 p.m.
In this Hatha Vinyasa class, the linking of body movement with breath will guide our flow stimulating the productivity of the vital organs and encouraging the release of accumulated toxins. In our sequence, we will utilize components of toxic release from our core by abdominal compression, decompression, and twists. As well, we will clear our own internal blockages and bring greater strength, flexibility, and joy to our life through chest and hip openers. Inspiring our hearts and renewing our minds we will learn how to open our energy channels and allow them to flow freely.
